I learned about metallic watercolors from a vendor at a craft fair. I didn’t even know they existed!
I fell in love with them.
I use them quite often—I can’t imagine painting without them, so I’ve purchased many colors.
They come in small tins, and the paints last a very, very long time.
They shimmer and shine so beautifully, creating depth in any piece. And of course, the image changes with light and movement. The trick to using them is to add a couple of drops of water to the watercolor and let it soften for a minute or two.
I use metallic watercolor paints from two different vendors: ChromaWatercolors and CSY Art Gallery.
As an added bonus, I reuse the boxes the CSY Art Gallery paints arrive in for gifting. They are especially perfect for gifting paperweights I make using white rocks and an image printed onto tissue paper. It’s a little tricky!
Add a little shredded paper for some softness, and voilà—a beautiful way to gift a rock… ahem… I mean, a paperweight.
