January 17 is National Hot Buttered Rum Day

Ice cream based, this homemade mix is kept in the freezer
by Deborah Bass Published: January 16, 2026

Every January 17 is National Hot Buttered Rum Day—a tradition that’s just as satisfying now as it was when I first wrote this post.

I love sharing this recipe every year to mark the day — it’s become a small tradition of mine. It’s rich, simple to make ahead, and ready whenever the mood strikes, whether you’re celebrating National Hot Buttered Rum Day or just craving something warming on a cold winter evening.

About Me

About Me

Hey, there. I'm Deborah~

Writer. Miner of meaning. Beautiful things seeker. I write about whatever sparks inspiration or brings joy—things that make my solar plexus twirl—travel, art, urban expeditions, and the human experience, as well as tougher topics like dark history. I don’t flinch from the hard stuff. Mostly, I love to open hearts and ignite emotion.

Why I Write

“One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.”
