My Favorite Healthy Decaf Coffee

Solar Roast Coffee Cup and Beans with cup scaled

I finally found the perfect healthy decaf coffee.

My quest stemmed from a health perspective more than just a taste one. Most coffees give me acid indigestion, GERD and even heart palpitations. Drinking a decaffeinated version is a solution, but most still contain some caffeine, some use harsh chemicals to remove the caffeine,  and some are just more acidic than others.

I know. I know. Just give up coffee, right?

BUT, IT’S MY FAVORITE FOOD ON THE PLANET

Surely that validates my obsession to find the perfect one.  I’m so excited to share my treasure with you.

Solar Roast Decaffeinated Coffee is soooooo delicious.  I can drink it all day long and feel great. I know that sounds like a coffee commercial, but for us coffee lovers, it’s a big deal.

I found it first at Sprouts (after trying a lot of brands), but they stock limited supplies and were sold out for a few weeks. So, I contacted the company directly.

I needed more coffee and I wanted to understand how they remove the caffeine, too.

According to John at Solar Roast Coffee…

For caffeine removal, the Swiss water processing is gently simmering the beans in filtered water to essentially boil out the caffeine instead of over-charring til the caffeine is gone like most other decaf coffees on the market. As for the beans, it’s a South American blend that changes every so often from the distributor, but it’s likely primarily Colombian.  —John, Solar Roast Coffee

Solar Roast Coffee doesn’t use harsh chemicals to remove the caffeine. Most coffee companies do.

I WANT A HEALTHY DECAF COFFEE, NOT HARSH CHEMICALS.

And get this, theirs is USDA and Colorado State Certified 100% organic, and it’s fair trade certified, too.

What’s trade certified?

Fair trade coffee is coffee that is certified as having been produced to fair trade standards by fair trade organizations, which create trading partnerships that are based on dialogue, transparency and respect, with the goal of achieving greater equity in international trade.
—Fair Trade Coffee – Wikipedia
Here’s why that’s important:
Farmers who grow fair trade coffee receive a fair price, and their communities and the environment benefit as well. Fair trade certified coffee directly supports a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices, community development and environmental stewardship.

What’s not to love?

I mean, just look at those beans.

Oh, those lovely sun-roasted beans!

Fresh and sparkly with rich oils. The coffee is fresh because Solar Roast Coffee roasts them to order—naturally, in the sun. I took this picture four days after opening the package and still, the beans glisten.

I grind them fresh and brew them in my favorite coffee maker for a rich cup of coffee or even a cappuccino (my coffee maker has a frother built in!).

I’m a Starbucks fan, through and through. I even own some stock. So buying Starbucks’ brand benefits me. But, they don’t make decaffeinated coffee like this.

Besides roasting the coffee beans on demand for each order, Solar Roast cares for the environment.

For example, instead of using throw-away packaging, they pack their larger boxes with a coffee bean bag (I ordered eight bags so I could receive free shipping). This heavy duty bean bag measures 28″ by 44″—huge. We’ll be adding a drawstring to ours and using it as storage for fishing or hunting supplies. It’s that rugged.

Gorgeous, too!

What will you do with your coffee bag?
