Sourdough Starter Kit

Sourdough starter kit with banneton baskets, bread lame, scoring tools, dough whisk, jars, and baked sourdough loaves arranged on a neutral surface

I’m a newbie at making homemade sourdough bread, and a friend recommended this kit to me, shown above—it’s fantastic. My first adventure used her sourdough starter (thanks, Halli!), and this starter kit helped ensure I didn’t fail right out of the gate.

It has everything you need: the razor for scoring the bread, the right bowls for proofing, and even silicone liners that make transferring the dough easier and help prevent sticking—for both round and long loaves. It might sound a little silly, but making bread from scratch has a real learning curve.

Like most baking things, though, practice makes yummy.

Now all you need is a Dutch oven. I love and recommend this one (round) and this one (long). Dutch ovens create the heat and steam sourdough needs to bake beautifully.

Happy baking!
