I found Jeff Pavon, my amazing hair stylist, the same way other people find him—by asking someone whose haircut I love where they get their hair done.
With short hair like mine, a stylist’s talent usually shows in the sculpting of the sideburns. That’s how I knew. I asked an employee at Pier 1 (many, many years ago, when that lovely brick-and-mortar store still existed) because her sideburns wisped and frayed in just the right way—her bangs and everything else, too. She told me she’d found Jeff the same way—by asking someone else with beautifully sculpted sideburns. If you have short hair, you know. That’s how it goes for those of us who need an artist tending to our hair. No ordinary stylist will do. Some of us will travel far to get our ’dos right—and a good number of Jeff’s clients drive hours for his cuts and color (he’s a master).

So many people have asked me who does my hair that creating this page felt like the only sane solution. I no longer whip out my phone to show a screenshot of his contact info or scribble his name on the back of a receipt. Now I just hand over my “business”—read: blog—card.
Over the years, Jeff has owned several salons and managed many stylists. These days, it’s just him in the most beautiful space. I always marvel at the decor. It’s not just a shop—it’s a luxurious nook with an edge, thanks to Jeff’s taste in cool music. He’s a musician, too, side-gigging through the years. And if you’re lucky, he might rattle off a quiet rat-a-tat-tat to the beat while he Edward Scissorhands your hair—sculpting it to suit your face, your vibe. He’s known for his color work, too—it runs in the family. His mother was a master colorist herself.
Jeff’s place is a happy place.
The smile you see in this picture? That’s Jeff, always. If he’s ever had a bad day—and who hasn’t?—I’ve never seen it in the 15 years I’ve been sitting in his chair.
