Talk about a last-minute retirement gift!
While on vacation in Tahoe with our great friends and my son Shaun’s in-laws Lou & Lyn, Ron and I remembered that Lou was set to retire in just days. We wanted to surprise him and celebrate his milestone.
But, what could we do from our room at the Marriott?
Visit the grocery store next door, of course! A quick Pinterest search inspired a sweet idea! So after a trip to Raley’s and a quick letter, we presented Lou with our gift.
We filled up a beautiful picnic basket with candy and wine and read the below letter to him. The ***bold type represents candy bars which are listed below the letter. We lined the picnic basket with candy bars (as well as a bottle of wine) and presented them to him in order as we read the letter.

Work lately has been a bit of a ***rocky road, but now you get to leave the work ***crunch behind you. (2, 3)
Yeah, you’ve been a bit of a ***nut, had loads of fun, lots of ***snickers we’re sure, but now you leave your good reputation and, unfortunately……your ***payday. (4, 5, 6)
But no worries! You have a ***good and plenty amount of time to spend with your ***3 musketeers! (7, 8)
You have ***extra time to travel, see the stars, locate the elusive ***Milky Way.…heck, go to New ***York! (9, 10, 11)
You get to take the biggest ***break you’ve had in years! You are going to have a ***whopper of a time! (12, 13)
Sure, the money will slip through your ***butterfingers, (14)
but now is the time to ***roll away the work-life and have a ***hubba bubba of a good time! (15, 16)
Now is not the time to ***whine. From now on—-life’s a ***picnic! (17, 18)
