I’m a liar.
I lie to people every day when I apply my mascara to make my lashes longer and thicker than they really are.
Me and L’Oréal? Secret sisters in a plot to deceive people who could care not one iota about the hair on my eyelids, especially their length and girth.
But I do.
Universally, long, lush lashes are deemed youthful and sexy. And who doesn’t want that?
But since I’ve retired, I’ve severed my relationship with L’Oréal and all the other makeup producers selling products harmful to me. Did you know most makeup contains harmful ingredients? I now use the EWG website and EWG app to sleuth out the safest products and it’s taken a couple of years to find the right products that look good on me and are safe, too—a tough combination.
In my research, I happened upon and watched many makeup artists teach their beauty tricks and hawk their favorite makeup products and in the process, I found a few favorites. But the one thing all the makeup artists had in common was that they recommended lash serum. These gorgeous gals, young and mature, all use a serum to grow their own lashes thick and full.
In the past, I worried about lash serums because I heard some of them can change the color of your eyes.
Say whaaaaaaaatttt?
Um. No. No thank you! That can’t be good.
I avoided lash serums for years thinking they were harmful.
But lash serums are much more popular now and nearly every makeup artist I found uses them. And their eyelashes are GORGEOUS! The lure was too great, so I tried a couple. And guess what?
My lashes grew long and luscious!
But, I still worried.
Recently, at my appointment with my optometrist, I asked her about the safety of lash serums.
She gave me the most incredible answer!
Lash serums are safe. The active ingredients are actually used IN the eyes for glaucoma patients. They’ve been used for 25+ years, been studied extensively, and found very safe to use. They learned that people who used the active ingredient to treat their glaucoma found that their lashes grew long and luscious.
Behold! The lash serum industry was born.
And, yes, according to my doctor, some of the products can change the color of your eyes if you have medium to light eye color. This is not harmful. But, most of the products I found stated that theirs don’t change your eye color. I suspect that’s a showstopper for most. It was for me.
So there you have it! Long, stunning lashes are obtainable and safe, too!
I’ve used two products to date: Angel Beauty Eyelash and Growth Serum and Younique Moodstruck Esteem Lash Serum. Both gave me great results; however, I’ve used Younique’s the longest and it’s what I use currently.
Stay tuned for another post about the other makeup products I fell in love with, are safe to use, and give glorious results.
Until then—
Stay beautiful. Stay you!
XOXO
P.S. — That’s me in the picture at my optometrist appointment. Those crazy cat lady glasses in the picture? I didn’t buy them. Fun, but not today!
